The pursuit of happiness has long been the dream of generations of humanbeings. They have always been puzzled Get Word (_puzzled_); by the essence ofhappiness. What is happiness? Is it closely related to one’s economic success? Will one’s financial success lead to happiness directly?
Personally, I don’t agree that one’s economic success is the only prerequisite of one’s happiness in life.
Happiness may fall into different categories Get Word (_categories_);. An old saying goes like this: “One man’s meat is another man’s poison”. Happiness may mean being a successful and respected leader of a company, or a stable andcomfortable job in a large international company, or a big flat downtown, a fantastic set of furniture, etc. However, happiness can also be a harmonious and peaceful family, or a hospitable and considerate friend, or just a smile, a gesture, a hint. In fact, happiness may be composed of anything you could ever think of. One’s materialistic happiness is dependant on one’s economic success,though not completely. Without a strong and steady economic background, onecould never imagine an easy and simple life, let alone an affluent and luxurious one. If you aren’t able to afford a house, a car, or even a book, anybody would be horrified at the mere mention of this kind of life. Definitely, some people will feel happy right away if their basic demands for life are satisfied. However, we have to admit that these people still need to be successful materialisticallyGetWord(_materialistically_); to some degree.
On the other hand, one’s success in economy may not necessarily lead to one’s spiritual happiness. As we all know, money doesn’t get you everything and some even say that money is the root of all evilsGetWord(_evils_);. One’s financial success may be built on the sacrifice of time, health and love, which are the three most essential elements of spiritual happiness. All of us are not new to this picture: a successful business man tasting loneliness alone with a broken heart.
In my point of view, one’s economic success is only one of the key factors of happiness, but never the only one. To be happy, one needs to be both spiritually and materially satisfied Get Word (_satisfied_); though each of us may have a totally different picture of happiness.
Wild animals have no place in the 21st century. Some people think that preventing these wild animals from dying out is a waste of resource. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion.
Biological diversity has never been so threatened as it is today as a result of the process of human civilization. The various forms of pressure created by human activity have destroyed natural balance, led to the deterioration of natural habitats, genetic erosion and the rarity, even disappearance, of a number of plant and animal species.
As the pace of civilization accelerates, more people, taking more space, needing to use more natural resources, engaging in ever-growing consumption, impose severe deterioration on the habitat of animals. An increasing number of people come to realize that the disappearance of animals will result in serious threat to the equilibrium of ecosystem. Simply put, the extinction of hawks, a rat-eating bird seen in many regions, will result in the rapid propagation of rats. And rats, further, will destroy the prairies and threaten the other animals like gazelles, zebras and others, who live on grass and green lands. The coexistence of animals and human beings creates perfect harmony and brings about the vividness to our planet.
It is hard to imagine what our world would be like without animals. Sociologists also point out that the disappearance of animals can cause social and economic problems. Animal trade, as a supporting sector to the world economy, was very active before. However, the situation is beyond control since animal trade is very profitable and alluring. Many species cannot escape the adversity of being killed.
Certainly, our diet cannot be without meat. There are living stocks, which can provide us with sufficient and nutritious produce. Therefore, we need not to resort to wild animals, especially the endangered ones. To protect animals is to protect our living environment. Every individual should join efforts to keep the diversity of animals.
Additionally, a mandatory policy for students to stay in school until at least they are eighteen , in large part, boosts the social harmony . Adolescence is a special period, in which young people,with immature minds, tend to lack self-control and the ability to distinguish right from wrong. Apart from imparting knowledge for its own sake, teachers also play an indispensable role in helping students instill correct moral values and become law-abiding citizens. Without judicious preparations and code of ethics to support and restrain themselves, the young, in all likelihood, will engage in anti-social behaviors .

Air transport is commonly used to move fruits and vegetables to places where those farm products can’t grow or are out of season. The benefits of such business are obvious, but air transport also creates a number of problems.
Transport of fruits and vegetables by air enables consumers to enjoy a wider variety of fresh and in-season farm products from all over the world. Not only is air transport good for consumers, it is also a blessing for farmers because the market is no longer restricted by regions. As a result, air transport increases the sale volume by selling more products in more places.
Moreover, air transport of food has now become a major resource of incomes for air companies. In the past, air companies’ business mainly came from serving passengers. However, facing an increasingly tough market, air companies need to expand their share of market to serve a wider range of customers in order to stay in the game and make a profit. With a booming economy and more money to spend, people create a great potential for food transport business and good margin for air companies.
In spite of such benefits, air transport is not free of problems. One major issue is high cost. Air transport is probably the most expensive way of transport. Higher costs entail high prices, which in turn deprive people with less money the opportunities to enjoy such privileges. So air transported food is now for the rich, a fact that is unfair for poor people.
In addition, it is not the best option to solve problems by transporting food from outside for places where certain kinds of fruits does not grow. The most optimal way, it seems to me, is that we should change the environment required by such plants using scientific and biological methods such as creating suitable soil and temperature. Such solutions will be proven to be ultimately cost-effective and fundamental.
More importantly, research indicates that air transport pollutes the environment. For example, Britain transports half its food by air. However one kilo New Zealand fruit emits five kilo warm house gas on its way to destination. Therefore, some environmental groups and books advocate people to distinguish local fruit and air-transported fruit in an effort to cut the pollution from food consumption.
In conclusion, air transport has many benefits for consumers and farmers, but it also has problems such as high cost and pollution. More effective and environmental friendly solution should be found to address such problems.
If people are asked why students go to university, I believe that many of the answers would be: to find a good job! It is true that job commitment is an important function of higher education. However, I think it has other functions.
For one thing, students learn to be independent in university. For many, if not all, of my schoolmates, entering university is the first time to leave home and live on their own. It is hard for them at first, but to my mind this is certainly an essential part of one's life, or else they may continue to receive parental care without getting mature as early as they should.
For another thing, students know better how to get along with people during the four years' university life. As we know, nowadays, many Chinese children are the only child at home and thus unlike people of the previous generations who have brothers and sisters, they know little about how to be tolerant and considerate to people around them. There is no doubt that universities provide us with an opportunity to learn to do s for example, we have to think of others instead of only ourselves when we share a dormitory room with others.
Lastly, besides imparting knowledge, university teachers also tell their students how to be a decent person in the rest of their life. For instance, students may learn how to be generous, think critically, be responsible for themselves, their family and work, etc. It is not a rare case for a student to change for the better under the influence of his university teacher.
To conclude, university education does not only prepare the students for a future job, but also teaches them important things that are to be useful all their life.
The argument correctly states the importance of the governments and large businesses but underestimates the significance of individual human beings in the campaign against environmental problems.

While emphasizing the crucial functions of the governments and businesses, we should not be distracted from the vital roles every individual human being plays in this great and glorious global project. Children, adults, and the elders all are indispensable in cracking the hard nut of pollution and consumption of limited resources. In our dailyroutine, each human being is expected to save the electricity, water, and fossil fuels. For instance, a child is expected to switch off the light when leaving the classroom. In agricultural production, each farmer is supposed to use less pesticide and sufficiently protect the water and soil from erosion. In industrial activities, each employee should conduct his or her activity with environmental ethic concerning. If all people work together, struggle together, and pray together, we will win one day in the future. Yes, lets share the only dream in the diversified world.
In conclusion, if governments, businesses, and individuals all contribute to the environmental programs and projects, then we human beings will enjoy a healthier and happier life in this globe.
Beyond all doubt, ploughing into the study under 18 ,young people are more likely to obtain certain qualifications, laying a solid foundation for their future career prospect. With excellent academic environment and abundant teaching resources in schools, by no means would the students fail to concentrate on the study. In this case, most high school graduates would enjoy strong probability to further their advanced studies in universities and seek for a decent job with their credentials. By this token, attending schools for a longer period of time is definitely a wise investment for the young themselves.

It is true that medicines and other products are routinely tested on animals before they are cleared for human use. While I tend towards the viewpoint that animal testing is morally wrong, I would have to support a limited amount of animal experimentation for the development of medicines.
On the one hand, there are clear ethical arguments against animal experimentation. To use a common example of this practice, laboratory mice may be given an illness so that the effectiveness of a new drug can be measured. Opponents of such research argue that humans have no right to subject animals to this kind of trauma, and that the lives of all creatures should be respected. They believe that the benefits to humans do not justify the suffering caused, and that scientists should use alternative methods of research.
On the other hand, reliable alternatives to animal experimentation may not always be available. Supporters of the use of animals in medical research believe that a certain amount of suffering on the part of mice or rats can be justified if human lives are saved. They argue that opponents of such research might feel differently if a member of their own families needed a medical treatment that had been developed through the use of animal experimentation. Personally, I agree with the banning of animal testing for non-medical products, but I feel that it may be a necessary evil where new drugs and medical procedures are concerned.
In conclusion, it seems to me that it would be wrong to ban testing on animals for vital medical research until equally effective alternatives have been developed.
The advancement of modern technology is making peoples life more comfortable and at the same time less human. To those who enjoy the benefits of technology, there is no better time to be alive than now, but to others life has been increasingly complex and stressful. The issue is whether such new technological machines as computers and the Internet would be our servants forever or eventually could become our masters.
All kinds of inventions made possible by technology are designed to be the slaves of human beings, if human beings are not to be slaved by machines. Once upon a time, we were plain people, but that was before we began having relationships with technological systems. By getting involved with computerized machines, we could not help changing the way we live and the way we work, for better or for worse It can be realized that life is more complex because much of modern technology is not born to meet primary human needs, and many unnecessary inventions are producing negative effects on a living style that used to be relatively simple. Television has had asignificant influence on the culture of many societies.
To what extent do youthink it has positively or negatively affected cultural development? Few people in this world are living a life without the accompaniment oftelevision, which then generates tremendous influence on the lifestyle and cultureof society. Although there may be some negative impacts, I would claim theeffect of television positive to the development of cultures. TV broadcasting enables the cultures to be spread widely to attract moreattention from the public. Released in the programs at various intervals, viadifferent TV channels, information about certain culture is known to the massand thus its influence is strengthened.
Also, from news reports to promotion ofactivities, TV programs can introduce, in a variety of angles, the details ofthe culture. The clearer understanding people have on it, the more concern theywill pay. Supervised and tested by the public through the reports on television,cultures will be developed more promisingly. With more cultures being shown onTV, comparison and contrast is done among people, which forces the culture toretain its essence to maintain identity and discard its dregs to attractcontinual attention. Besides, to spread further and influence more around theworld, the culture will be better developed in the right direction.
Admittedly, the broadcasting of TV programs will surely bring aboutcompetition among cultures and even lead to conflicts. However, it is just thiskind of atmosphere that is helpful for the cultures to develop further.
Afterall, in this fast changing world, there is no reason to allow those that cannotstand competition or cannot adapt to the trend of society to continue theirinfluence on people.
To sum up, television has positive impact on culturaldevelopment. With a clear understanding of this and proper measures taken inguidance, cultures will enjoy unprecedented prosperity than ever.
After completing my military service, I have been looking for a challenging goal for me to achieve. And I found that the Intermediate of General English Proficiency Test fits my new achievement properly.
I graduated from Taipei Commercial Junior College, majored in business

Children's education has long been our concern since Plato once uttered, _Education is where a country should start at._ However, it is still a controversial issue after all these years among people who are particularly concerned about it. Some people believe that it is parents' responsibility to cultivate their kids to be fully aware of what a social being should look like; others, whereas, argue that schools should take over this for the ultimate goal. In this essay, I would put this issue in question and further analyse both sides before presenting my personal perspective.
On one hand, parents, as the first touchers of their kids, should tell them how to differentiate right from wrong. Given the time parents spend with their kids, they can be more likely to observe everyday change of their children. As a result of this, they are accountable for how their children normally behave in reality. More importantly, considering the fact that people according to their social being are usually placed into diverse norms, parents, as a family, as a part of community and as individuals in the society, should appropriately behave in action so as to deliver a message to their kids in which what should be respected and cherished in lives is highly highlighted.
On the other hand, academic institutions should take the responsibility for educating students to be entirely ready to enter the society. After leaving parents for schools, kids almost devote their most prime time at schools with their peels, their friends and their teachers; therefore, schools ought to put much emphasis on their growth as a person. Consequently, students could learn what they cannot acquire from home, such as communicative skills, understanding of various cultures etc.

As is observed from the pie charts, in 1950 almost two-third expenditure was in housing whereas this average expenditure has been increased for food, transportation etc. in 2010.
According to the given data, more than 70% expenditure was in housing in 1950. The second most expenditure in this country was in food.
All other expenditures including health care, education, transportation etc. were less than 20% in total.
After 60 years the trends of expenditure in this country significantly changed. People's expenditure in housing decreased to only 22% while the expenditure for food increased to 34%.
Interestingly the expenditure on education decreased over time while the expenses for transportation increased to 14%. All other expenditure in 1950 was only which increased to in 2010 which indicates the new addition on category where people started expensing than they did in 1950.
In summary, the expenditure nature of people had changed significantly in 2010 than that had been in 1950.
From a middle class family, I was born in Hsin Ying, Tainan on October 10th, 1965. My father is a civil official at Tainan City Government. My mother is a house wife good at cooking. Although I am the only child of my parents, I am by no mans a spoiled one. On the contrary, I have been expected to be a successful man with advanced education. I study hard at school. Besides texts knowledge, journalism is my favorite; whenever reading, my heart is filled with great joy and interesting.
