karaoke is a welcome and popular source of entertainment. people all over the world are familiar with it. it enjoys popularity in get together (聚会) and evening gala(联欢晚会). common folks (平民百姓) can simply sit in the living room and sing songs that best suit their tastes. thus it enriches people＇s lives in a simple but creative way.
being an inepensive and convenient source of entertainment, karaoke is of various functions. firstly, it enlarges our social circle and strengthens our bond (纽带). secondly, karaoke can remove the ban of social walls between people. thirdly, it helps channel enthusiasm (热爱) into enjoyable and instructive pastimes (消遣). the list does not stop here.
however, it can also be a nuisance. for instance, some fans sing loudly late at night, which disturbs others. for another instance, some suffer from a sore throat from ecessive practice. karaoke, in the final analysis, should be for the overall improvement of social civilization. its enduring appeal should lie in the high quality of entertainment, not noise pollution.
Many people have realized the importance of regular physical exercises. Physical exercises increase the blood circulation. It can strengthen our muscles and make our bodies strong. Physical exercises may prevent us from getting too fat and keep us healthy. Anyone who does not have a good health, can do nothing for his country.
Sports can promote international communication and understanding. It is believed that international sports may create goodwill between nations. If countries play together they will learn to live together. Understanding comes from contact. International sports give different nations a chance to get to know each other. In this way, different countries may have better understanding between each other.
When times become difficult (and you know they sometimes will), remember a moment in your life that was filled with joy and happiness.
Remember how it made you feel, and you will have the strength you need to get through any trial.
When life throws you one more obstacle than you think you can handle, remember something you achieved through perseverance and by struggling to the end.

Some students don’t like to study. They are more interested in doing other kind of practical work or relaxing and enjoying themselves. They say that it is no use learning the knowledge from textbooks when you won’t use this at all in your whole life. Even when you look for a job, they won’t pay much attention to your academic records. They put more emphasis on who you are, where you are from and whom you know.
In fact, it is very important for college students to study hard. Firstly, a college student without much knowledge wouldn’t be very useful to the society. What he can reward the society is very little. Secondly, he may hardly find a good job and live a respectable life on account of lack of knowledge. This is also a great loss to himself when he couldn’t find a place in the society. Finally, college students are young and energetic and a college provides the best place for them to grasp science and technology. Nowadays, micro blog has become a prevalent shared platform used by youth and old who can use mobile phone flexible. Why does it become so popular?

They can read and comment it immediately. In my opinion, it’s the most important function that is different from the traditional blog. Micro blog is more easy to use. Secondly, it will remind you more and more people whom you may be familiar with, so that you fans circle can be larger and larger. What’s more, with more and more famous person join in micro blog, you can catch much news in this platform, including political, economic, cultural and stars’ news. There are also some jokes that you can read them to relax in your spare time.
In a word, micro blog is a platform that helps people get in touch with others more conveniently and frequently. In such a busy era, it’s no doubt to be a good choice for people to know what happen around us.
Asked about which symbol can represent ones identity, the first answer occurring to most people, I believe, should be their names. Bingo! Every single person owns a particular name, which uniquely refers to this individual. Name is such an essential part of personal life that it is deliberately considered by parents or grandparents even before his/her birth. Moreover, the name will be with person for a whole life, widely used under any situation, such as filling in registration forms, or a topic of conversations, to name just a few.
However, some people hold different views regarding the necessity of names. They argue that name is no more than an arbitrary symbol. Also, they believe that the good wishes the names express to the person are merely imagination. In this sense, they dont think names are of any great importance.
As far as I am concerned, owning a name is good for the orderly organization of our society. Also, names indicate the long history and culture and express our good wishes for our life and future.
work and play are two important parts in people＇s life, but some times they are contradictory, whether we can balance them has much to do with our success.
some people think that we should do more work, because everyone has a limited life, and we should make as many contributions as we can to society. besides, we can acquire more knowledge and gain more eperience by hard work, which will help us a lot later in our life.
others believe that we should spare enough time for play. there is a saying that all work and no play makes john a dull boy. play makes people feel relaed and free them from the stress of work.
in this sense, it is also beneficial to our health. so if we don＇t play, we can＇t work well. in my opinion, we should do more work when we are young be cause we are energetic, and we can spend more time playing and enjoying our life when we become aged. of course, we should never overdo things and never indulge ourselves with play.
Nowadays a growing number of people, especiallythe 20s or 30s, tend to stay indoors for most of their spare time, especially on holidays. Somespend the majority of the time online chatting, blogging, shopping, dating or playing computergames. Some sit with their eyes glued to the television screen, day and night.
People's opinions vary when it comes to this way of killing time. A great number of people maintain that staying indoors is cheap, comfortable, and most importantly, very safe. Others,however, frown upon staying indoors for too long. They are worried that lack of physical exercise and face-to-face communication with others will do harm to people's body and mind.
Personally, I don't think staying indoors for most of the day should be advocated. Instead,people in all ages, their physical conditions permitting, should be encouraged to spend more time outdoors. The brilliant sunshine, the pleasant green space, the interactions with other people, etc. are all good for people's health, both physically and psychologically.
Travel has become a world-wide activity. Never before have so many people travelled to so many different parts of the world. With new modes of fast and comfortable transport,more and more people are tempted to leave their homes to see more of the world.

Firstly, the mature person must have right attitude towards life. When he gets the unfair treatment, he won't be angry and give up on himself, instead, he can adjust himself and get used to the new environment. So, no matter what happens to him, nothing can frustrate him. He always finds his own way to appreciate the beauty of life.

Secondly, the mature person must be knowledgable. As he experiences so much, he has broadened his vision. When other people ask him questions, he can give his own opinion and his profound thoughts will impress others. When we talk to the mature people, we will always learn something from them.

People like to communicate with mature minds, because it helps them to grow up. Everybody can be mature if they improve themselves all the time.

Getting to Know the World outside the Campus It is necessary for college students to know the world outside the campus. This is because in this “Information Age” the society is developing so fast that we should keep pace with the progress of the outside world. Therefore, without knowledge of the outside world, it will be difficult for us to secure an ideal job after graduation; it will be more difficult for us to succeed in the near future.
How to know the outside world? First of all, we should be well informed about what is happening around us with the help of mass media: radios, televisions, newspapers, the Internet, and so on. Moreover, we should do more practical social services so as to cultivate our social skills, widen our eyesight and enrich our social experience.
As for me, I plan to know the outside world in two aspects: study first to have a good command of knowledge. At the same time, I intend to hold a temporary job to know more about the outside world.
Our dormitory has four members. Besides me, there are Old Zhao, Young Zhao and Lily. As college students, our experiences are similar, and right now, we are all students of Law School. But in terms of character, we are totally different from each other.
Old Zhao is our common sister. She is very kind and considerate. She takes full responsibility of our dormitory. If sorne of us catch a cold, she will take good care of her. Whenever we are in trouble, we turn to her.
Young Zhao is a quiet girl. If there is a chat among us, she is always the one who says little but listens attentively. She has the admirable ability to do well in all kinds of examinations. We all agree that she is the example that we should learn from in studies.
Lily is just the opposite of Young Zhao. She is very talkative. We enjoy her cornpany because she has the sense of humor, which rnakes her talk extremely interesting. Where there is Lily, there is laughter.
Such are my three roommates. In spite of our different characters, we get on well with each other. Our dormitory has become our common home.
when it comes to disasters, quite a lot of people believe they will come across sudden disasters in their life. to begin with, natural disasters like earthquakes, flood and draught occur now and then; in addition, diseases like sars, cancer and tumor will attack people unepectedly; last but not the least, car accidents, plane crashes can’t be ignored as part of disasters.
why there are so many disasters? the reasons may go as follows: on one hand, some mysteries about nature are beyond our control and understanding; on another hand, people are careless and can’t foresee what will happen beforehand.
from what has been discussed above, i may safely draw the conclusion that disasters can’t be avoided now, but with more knowledge about nature, we’ll certainly reduce the loss brought by them to the smallest degree, so the prospect we are looking forward to will be both bright and encouraging.
in the past hundred years, there have heen frequent natural disasters, such as floods, droughts, mud-rock flows, seismic sea waves, earthquakes, windstorms and the stretching of new deserts. the disasters have killed millions upon millions of people, destroyed countless homes, and wiped out numerous pieces of fertile land.
now more and more people become aware that those disasters have much to do with what we have done to the earth. we have cut down too many trees in the forests,we have badly polluted the environment, we have shocked our own home-planet time and again with tremendously powerful eplosions of nuclear bombs. as a result, climates have become abnormal, rainwater rushes down hillsides angrily, and the underground energy goes up to revenge itself on us.
the earth is our only home-planet. it is urgent for us to stop damaging it, and to do our best to protect it and make it a lovely place suitable to live in, for we have nowhere to go and survive ecept where we are now.
I took a trip to Shanghai with my mother during the seven-day holiday. It took us more than two hours to drive to Shanghai from my home in Haimen. We stayed in a large hotel on the eighth floor. On the first day， I just stayed in the hotel and rested. On the second day， my brother and I went to Nanjing Road. It’s the busiest street in Shanghai. When we got there， there were lots of people. We walked from one shop to another. I bought two T-shirts and two pairs of trousers for the ing summer. The T-shirts and trousers I bought are all white because white is my favourite colour. My brother also bought some clothes.
On the third day， my mother took me to Jinjiang Entertainment Centre. It was full of people. I played many kinds of gamesthere. I had a good time. The other days， I went to some other interesting places， such as the Oriental Bright Pearl TV Tower， the Huangpu River and Shanghai International Conference Centre. I didn’t forget to do my homework in the evening. I had a full an
