Dear Ms Wang,

I make bold to write this letter to ask you to do me a favour. I have tried to translate several short chinese stories into English for a part-time job. As it is the first time for me to do a translation work, I think there must be many errors and awkward expressions of Chinese English for my lack of experiences. I sincerely hope that you would read over my manuscripts and correct my mistakes and sociolisms. Also could you please give me some other suggestions on my translation work.

Thank you for your help with great respect!

Your faithful student,

Business Email

Bolton、Ms. Bolton、Ms.

Dear Mr. Manager,

I am writing this letter to recommendate my student Wang Gang who is seeking the position of marketing clerk of your company.

He says you are satisfied with his presentation at the interview and require recommendation to be attached to his exceptional academic performance in the college.

关于结尾辞,最常见的就是 Sincerely(敬上)、Yours truly(敬上)、Best regards(顺颂安祺)、Regards(祝安好)。其他较少用到的结尾辞包括了 Yours faithfully(敬上)、Warm(est) / Kind regards(祝安好),而在极非正式的信件中最后常会用到 Cheers(再见)。

I look forward to…

● I look forward to discussing this matter in person with you soon.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to…

● If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me.

Please let me know if…

● Please let me know if you require any more details.

That’s all for now…

● Anyway, that’s all for now. Take care.

Dear Tom,

It is nice to receive your email. Now I’d like to tell you something about the Palace Museum.

The Palace Museum is also called the Forbidden City. It took 200,000 workers more than 13 years to build the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City was finished being built in 1420. The largest museum in the world, the Palace Museum, holds cultural treasures from the past 5,000 years of Chinese history. The City’s palaces have 9,999 rooms altogether. Chinese people traditionally have thought of nine as a lucky number. Students from all over China can now visit in groups at no charge every Tuesday. The museum is under construction.

I hope you can come to China and take a look at this museum with your own eyes.

Best wishes.

×××

Dear Sirs,

I take delight in recommending Mr Wang Gang to the Education Department of your university.

Mr Wang is a conscientious and strong-minded young man. He was first trained for two years in Beijing Normal University and assigned to work as a high school teacher. His desire, however, was to instruct English in a university. Then he entered the Beijing Institute of Education to study English for another two years . His academic record was exceptionally good, especially in American literature course.

Now, He has graduated from the institute and hopes to study further abroad, which will benefit his future employment prospect and may help fulfil his desire.

I should appreciate it very much if you would consider him.

Yours sincerely,

×××

Dear Mr. Wallace,

We know that you are an expert on literature. As students in English major, we want to know some details about literature. We should be very grateful if you could give a talk on “American Literature” to students of the English Department on Saturday, April 19. If this subject does not suit you, any other similar topic would be welcome as well.

We have already had several very interesting talks from distinguished visiors from various countries this semester and we look forward eagerly to the opportunity to benefit from your experience and wisdom.

Sincerely yours,

×××

Dear Mr. Wang,

Thank you for your reply of August 20 about my application for a position. It came to hand this morning as a pleasant surprise. I am glad to tell you that I will attend the interview at the time you set for the morning of August 30. I will bring along full details of my testimonials as you suggested.

I would like to introduce myself to the company and hope to be a member of it. I would certainly spare no effort to acquit myself to your satisfaction.

Yours respectfully,

Dear Jenny,

I do not need to tell you how greatly I appreciate all you have done for me these days and how grateful I am for the comfort and understanding you gave me when I needed them so desperately.

No one knows better than you how important my mother meant to me and what an aching void my life has become without her. But I am trying to take your advice and I hope that returning to my work next week will help heal the sorrow

I really do not know what I would have been without you. Thank you again for everything you have done for me!

Affectionately,

If you agree, I will come to your house once a week at a time most convenient to you.

Thank you very much for your kind help on many occasions in the past.

Your friend,

(1) 发件人(the sender)

(2) 收件人(mail recipient)

(3) 邮件主题(the subject line)

(5) 信文(the message or the body of the letter)

(6) 结尾敬语(the complimentary close)

(7) 写信人签名或签署(the writer’s signature and designation)

(8) 附件(the enclosure)

(9) 抄送(the carbon copy notation)

1. Start With an Appropriate Salutation

Some people jump straight into the text of an email without so much as a “hi”. It’s polite to add asalutation, just as you would with a letter. Thatmight look like:

Dear Sir/Madam

Dear

Hi Sue

Hello Fred

2. Get Straight to the Point

Getting straight to the point might mean that the first line of your email (after thesalutation) looks something like this:

I’m working on an article about XXX,and wondered if you had a few minutes to answer the following three questions.

3. Keep it Short

Try to keep your email as short as possible. Make the paragraphs short, too – long paragraphs can be difficultto read and take in.

4. Use Numbered Points

If you’ve got several questions or pointsto make, it’s very helpful to number them. This makesit easy for the other person to respond to each one, especially if some justrequire a yes/no response or a single word answer. For instance:

Could you let me know:

Whether youcould complete #2 by the end of April

5. Re-read and Use Spell-Check

A typo orspelling mistake can turn one word into an entirely different one. If you’re using email in a , that mistake could be embarrassing or even offensive. It might alterthe whole meaning of your email: a missing “not”, for instance, could potentially cause problems.

Spell-checkshould help you avoid any silly mistakes – but use your eyes and brain are plenty of words that spell-check won’t pickup. If you’re emailing from a device with predictivetext and an auto-correct feature, make sure you always re-read what you’ve typed.

6. Make Your Signature Useful

Do you havean email signature?(That’s the textthat appears automatically at the bottom of your email.) Some people don’t use one at all; others have a funny quote or favorite saying.

Whether you’re using email for professional orpersonal reasons, make your signature useful for both you and your might mean:

Giving the link to your website

Including your work address and/or phone number

Adding links to your social media accounts

Dear Linda,

I’m very glad that you’ll come to China as an exchange student. I know it isn’t easy to learn Chinese, but I have some ideas that may help.

Firstly, it’s very important to listen to the teacher carefully in class and take some notes so that you can go over your lessons later. Secondly, try to catch every chance to practice speaking, both in and out of class. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Then try to listen and read more in Chinese.

What’s more, you’d better plan your time well and study it very often every day. Above all, you should be confident in yourself and don’t give up whenever you meet with difficulty. I’m sure you will succeed through your hard work.

Dear Mary,

Thanks for your last letter. I'm so glad that you have been able (at last! ) to arrange a holiday in Australia. As I fear I won't be able to meet you at the airport when you arrive, nor will I be able to be home until later in the afternoon, so here are some instructions and suggestions.

There is a bus from the airport to the city. It is much cheaper than a cab. Take the bus to the city and ask to get off at Town Hall railway station.

To get to my place in the eastern suburbs you have three options. You can either take a cab, a bus or the train. I suggest you take the train, since the airport bus will leave you right at the station. Get off at Cliff Station. From there you can either walk to my place (about ten minutes) or take a taxi. Probably you should take a taxi as you will have luggage.

When you arrive at my flat, ring the intercom for Flat 2. My friend Lillian will be at home and she will open the front door for you and let you into my flat.

Presumably you will be tired and want to sleep. But if you feel like some exercise after that long flight, you could stroll down to Cooper Park, which is only ten minutes away ? you can see it from the window.

Cheers and looking forward to seeing you.
